Imagining Your Game

  • WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.)
  • WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!)
  • WHERE does your game happen?
    • Describe the world you will design for your game.
    • How will this setting add to the learning experience?
  • HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic?
    • What happens in the world that helps the player learn?
    • How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?
  • WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz?
1. For all ages
2. To excercise and eat healthy
3. A square environment
4. To jump hurdles
5. More interaction

Playing to Learn

The genres that I am most interested in includes...action, sports, running.

Mini Game Assignment

Was it hard to make your mini game? What was the best part of this topic? The worst part?

Not too hard. The best part of the topic was learning about physical fitness.  No worst part.

Adding Scenes

I am using visual storytelling through the the runner jumping over hurdles for healthy and unhealthy food to get into proper physical shape. From the games that I have played in the Playing to Learn topic, I feel that none of the games used storytelling to teach a concept well. Lastly, I feel that other narrative games have not influenced my game.

Video Blog

This past Monday, my team created a video blog as a requirement from Globaloria. We used our new paper prototypes which contains a new title name, which is now called "Aggressive Square Runner".  Also the game contains square elements including clouds, sun and the runner himself.

Paper Prototyping

I have completed my paper prototyping on Run & Jump.  The game is about an out of shape guy getting ready for the 5K race.  The goal is to successfully jump the hardles and collect the fruit. If you can't successfully jump the hurdles, the runner eats unhealthy food, causing him to slow down. The game speeds up as you jump the hurdles. The game will have 3 rounds.

Game Topic

I believe my game topic will consist of running. The goal is to have the runner hurdle obsticles by jumping. The more you jump successfully the more points you earn. However, if you do not manage to jump successfully, you will lose points. If you lose all of your points, it's game over.

What excites me is the fact that I can create a game based on something that I enjoy doing in my spare time. So I am familiar with running and I am definitely looking forward to it.

Games In Free Time

I do play games from time to time when I can. I usually play racing and shooting games. It does give me a new perspective about playing games because I would really like to know how to create them.

Coding In Flash

I am beginning to learn how to code with Adobe Flash for the first time. We are learning the code for a game tutorial. Right now it seems a little difficult, but however with some determination and patience, I can master this achievement.

My Video Game History

My video game history begins back when I was about 5 years old when my mother bought me an Atari 7800. From what I can remember, I had a blast with this console.  Some of the games I remember include Ms. Pac Man, Donkey Kong, River Raid, Q Bert, Pole Position and many more.

In Christmas of 1992, my grandmother bought me an NES. It came with Super Mario Bros. 3. I don't have too many memories with as I owned some some awful games that I would rather not mention.

By the time Spring of 1994 came, I begged and pleaded my grandmother to buy me a SNES until she bought me one. The system came with Super Mario World, Super Mario Kart, and Mario All Stars. Over the span of the next few years I bought a few SNES titles including TMNT: Turtles In Time, Super Mario RPG, NBA Live 96, Plok, etc.

On my birthday of 1997, my mother bought me an N64. I bought Mario Kart 64, which I still love dearly. Later I bought titles, including Super Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, Star Fox, couple of wrestling games and of course Zelda Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask.

In 2001, I had high hopes on getting a Nintendo GameCube. To me, I was expecting an awesome system with great games, etc.  Well, after getting the console as a Christmas present, I was rather disappointed. I also owned an Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360 and the last system I bought was a PS3.
